Doug Green is an award winning garden author and retired specialist nurseryman who used to grow over 1600 varieties and species of perennial flowers and 600-800 species and varieties of annual flowers and vegetables every year in his greenhouse business – Simple Gifts Farm in Athens, Ontario.
He currently lives on an island in Lake Ontario, Canada where he and his sweetheart and heirloom seed expert, Mayo Underwood garden together preserving her collection of heirloom seeds and sharing started plants with friends.
I’m retired now and will update this blog whenever the spirit or mood strikes. My own gardens, stone walls and reading/rebooting other creative adventures are taking up much of my time.
The author of over 30 gardening books and ebooks, including the award-winning ‘Garden Wisdom’, Doug now writes for his website and whatever else catches his fancy.
Doug grew up in the country outside Toronto in what is now paved and called Pickering – endured through Pickering High School and ran gladly to Western for a BA and U of Toronto for a Masters.
A voracious reader, Doug collects antique garden books as well as his boyhood favorites Tom Swift and The Hardy Boys. If not in his garden, or curled up with a good book, he’ll be on some back road in his classic 1977 Spitfire.
