I’ve had both of these geraniums in my garden from different nurseries and couldn’t tell them apart. Well, apparently they’re the same plant according to genetic testing done this spring.
Blooms of Bressingham is the worldwide, exclusive license holder for distribution of Geranium ‘Gerwat’ under the marketing name of ‘Rozanne’.
The breeder van Noort Vaste Planten in the Netherlands owned ‘Jolly Bee’ and had patents on it. It was offered for sale in Europe and North America as well.
Under the settlement, ‘Jolly Bee’ sales are now officially over (ending June 30, 2010) and all patents are now owned by Blooms but both companies can sell the plant under its official name of ‘Gerwat’.
Bottom line – not much but if you have both plants, you now only have one. ‘Rozanne’ is the name or you can, if you want, call it ‘Gerwat’.
I’m sticking to ‘Rozanne’ because this is one wonderful Geranium that blooms all summer in the dry heat and semi-shade and is as tough as nails.
