Folks, this is a summary of some of the plants – award winners and new introductions – you’ll be seeing in your local garden centers this spring.
The FleuroSelect Awards.
Fleuroselect is proud to present the 2018 Gold Medal winners! Each one of these breeding breakthroughs obtained an outstanding score on innovation, beauty and garden performance, convincing our judges and Entries & Evaluation Committee to award the coveted Gold Medal.
- Calibrachoa Double PinkMania
- Lewisia Elise Ruby Red
- Petunia MyLove Orange
- Zinnia Profusion Red
Why are these the 2018 Awards? Because they’re being introduced to the nursery trade and not consumers. You’re getting the info early because I read this stuff. But what it does do is give you a sense of what’s coming your way.
Also, I’ve grown the Zinnia ‘Profusion Red’ and it’s a great plant. 🙂
I’m a huge fan of the Proven Winners plants. Their marketing is superb and so (frankly) are their plants. I’ve only had one or two “dogs” out of all the plants they’ve sent me or I’ve purchased. (One was a plant best suited for Southern gardens and I live in the north – the other ??? – I forget but maybe it was only 1)
Here are the 2017 Annual Introductions.
Here’s A Container Use For Some Proven Winner Introduction
Frankly, I’m really excited about getting back to our northern garden and seeing what’s available in the garden centers this year. 🙂
- Your homework this year is to test at least 2 new annuals you’ve never tried before.
- Buy at least two of two new annual plants.
- Put one in the sun area (sun or shade) the label suggests.
- Put one slightly “off-area” (part sun or part shade)
- Water and feed normally.
- Watch what happens to a plant when it’s “slightly” stressed.
I think you’re going to be surprised at the plant reaction.
